Kriega's OS-Adventure pack luggage system is very popular among adventure riders and that's not a coincidence. This type of bags works great with Husqvarna 701 Enduro and similar bikes, no matter how demanding riding conditions are. With the Kriega 690/701/ES700 OS-Base the bags fit the bike like a glove.
We will show several different mounting options and this will probably be a long post. Let's dive in.
Kriega 690/701 OS-Base with Perun moto Luggage rack
The bike is equipped with Perun moto Husqvarna 701 Luggage rack Gen 2 and Heel guards (V3). These provide secure strapping points for the OS-Base.
Our Luggage rack has pre-drilled holes for installation of the Kriega OS-rack loops. These are mounted to the upper side of the Luggage rack. Do not overtighten the OS-Rack loops, they should be able to rotate around. Use a drop of thread locker to prevent them from coming undone.
If you don't have OS-Rack loops it is possible to use Kriega Frame loops. Slots on the rack enable easy installation. In either case, final position of the OS-Base can be easily adjusted to personal preference.
Mounted like this, one of the top straps is going over the edge of Luggage rack. All edges of the rack are chamfered and smooth, and the straps are extremely heavy duty so this shouldn't be an issue, even in the long run (powder coating on the rack will rub trough eventually). Just remember to check it occasionally.
As can be seen from the photos above, fuel cap is not blocked.
Lower straps attach to the Perun moto Huqvarna 701 Heel guards V3. This newest iteration of the Heel guards comes with completely rounded edges which are even more strap friendly than before. Using the largest slot on the Heel guards gives the best angle to the straps.
Kriega OS-Base sits entirely on plastic side panels on both sides of the bike. This is great as it prevents bouncing of the bags. The OS-18 bags aren't touching the silencer. Using the heat shield is still advisable, just as an added precaution.
This setup has practically the same width as stock handlebars. It looks a lot wider in the photo, but that's due to camera/lens perspective.
Entire surface of the Perun moto Luggage rack remains free and it's possible to add a small tail bag. Kriega US-10 or US-20 Drypacks work great.
Here are a couple more photos from different angles, to give you the feel about fitment of Kriega OS-18 bags on the bike.
Kriega 690/701 OS-Base with Perun moto Luggage rack + Extension plate
Adding Perun moto Extension plate for Husqvarna 701 Luggage rack Gen 2 improves usability of the whole setup. The Extension plate has pre-drilled holes for Kriega OS-Rack loops. These can be installed on the underside of extension plate. By using a countersunk M6 bolts to secure OS-Rack loops, top surface of the Extension plate remains completely flat. This way, there's no danger of damaging the tail bag.
Use a drop of thread locker, or an M6 flat washer and safety nut on the underside, to prevent OS-Rack loops from coming loose.
Mounted like this, the straps don't go over the edges of Luggage rack.
The biggest advantage of using the Extension plate lies in its large surface. This enables installation of even the larger tail bags.
Adding the Kriega US-40 Rackpack gives huge storage volume boost. That is one of my favorite setups for longer camping trips.
US-40 Rackpack is secured to the bike with four straps, two in the back and two in the front. Since OS-Rack loops block slots on the front of the Extension plate, usually used to attach US-40 bag, there are two other reliable and secure options. One is to use the slots on the Luggage rack and the other is to secure the front straps directly to the OS-Base.
In either case, the US-40 can be attached securely and will not move around.
Positioning of the OS-Base remains the same. I like having it as far forward as possible, without interfering with my movements on the bike.
Probably the only thing I don't like about the OS-18 bags is the absence of external pockets. These would come in handy in many situations. However, having the US-40 Rackpack installed gives the chance of mounting Kriega 2l OS-Bottle holder.
