We have recently launched our first product for a BMW R 1300 GS: Direct handlebar clamp AMPS. Since BMW boxers use oversized 32mm handlebars we had to redesign our existing Direct handlebar clamp.
Direct handlebar clamp is milled out of aircraft grade aluminum alloy, anodized in black. Threads are formed, instead of being cut. All necessary mounting hardware is included. We also included custom 3M protective stickers, to save nice GS logo on the handlebars.
In practical terms, this means that our Direct handlebar clamp is built to be used and to last a long time.
Installation is very simple and shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes. For full installation instructions please click HERE.
Upper plate can be installed either facing forward or backward, providing 60mm of fore-aft position adjustment.
AMPS bolt pattern is pretty much industry standard when it comes to GPS and phone mounts, and that's exactly what we have used. This means easy and seamless installation of various GPS units. Garmin Zumo XT is certainly one of them.
Garmin Zumo XT installs in a matter of minutes. Simply bolt its cradle to the Direct handlebar clamp and then lock GPS unit into place.
Zumo XT cradle can be hard wired to the bike, providing power to the GPS unit without the need for plugging cables. Since this is not permanent installation yet, I will use the USB cable for now.
Tilt of the GPS can be adjusted after installation. Mounted like this, the Zumo XT will not block the dashboard or warning lights (186cm tall rider typing this).
I never had issues with Zumo XT falling out of its cradle, even when riding tough off-road on single cylinder bikes, but I still like to secure it with lanyard.
Here is the short video of a Garmin Zumo XT installed on a BMW R1300 GS using Perun moto Direct handlebar clamp (32mm) AMPS.
