Here is our new Yamaha Tenere 700 Top luggage rack.
1. Stainless steel rails
Unlike the Husqvarna Norden 901 or KTM 890 Adventure, Yamaha Tenere 700 doesn't have threaded inserts on the tail, designed to carry a top luggage rack. So we had to design brackets that will carry a top rack plate.
We opted for 4 mm stainless steel, because of the material properties that allow these rails to withstand constant use and abuse. For additional strength, we bend them, using the special tooling and precisely calculated bend radii.
To fully use the rails, we incorporated two slots at each rail. And to make this slots really useful on longer trips, we mill this stainless steel brackets, so we were able to chamfer all edges.
These slots are also very useful for installing the haul loops, like this Kriega Rear Haul loop.
2. Low profile
One of the main goals was to achieve low profile of the top luggage plate.
The look was one of the reasons, but more important reason was that low profile makes the top luggage rack plate flush with the stock seat ("standard" and Rally version). This is very beneficial for rack-less luggage systems.
3. Rack-less system ready
Low profile isn't the only thing that is done for easy installation of rack-less systems. In the design phase, we made several prototypes and tested some of the most popular rack-less systems on the market - Mosko moto Reckless 80, Giant Loop Great Basin and Siskiyou, Enduristan Blizzard XL.
Front portion of the rack is sized so it provides good support for these bags.
And slots are placed at an angle and positioned according to the straps on these bags.
More details about the fitment of these rack-less system can be found in blog posts here: Mosko moto Reckless 80, Giant loop Great Basin, Giant loop Siskiyou, Enduristan Blizzard XL.
And for even better fitment of rack-less systems, check our Yamaha Tenere 700 Side carriers and Tie-down brackets.
4. Smooth edges
Top plate is milled out of 6 mm aluminum alloy. This makes it strong and light.
All edges are chamfered and smooth, easy on the straps even on very long trips.
5. Top case ready
Rack is designed to accept Givi/Kappa Monokey and SW-Motech top cases, with appropriate hardware. More details in the Instructions.
Due to the fact that rack is primarily designed for soft luggage and rack-less systems, top cases are carried more towards the rider than usual. This is good for mass centralization, but doesn't leave much room for a pillion. Also, top cases can be used only with stock seats ("standard" and Rally version).
Mind that top cases are to be used on roads only (no off-road).
More details about fitment of these top cases, in following blog posts: Givi/Kappa Monokey and SW-Motech.
6. Rotopax ready (1 gallon)
If you need to carry your 1 gallon Rotopax can, no worries. Holes for Rotopax mount are pre-drilled and installation is quick and easy.
More details in the Instructions.
7. Perfect for Kriega US Drypack bags and Rackpack bag
As on all our top racks, we offer means for easy installation of Kriega bags.
Four holes for Kriega OS-Rack loops are predrilled.
Installing a Kriega US-10 Drypack takes several seconds.
Larger bags fit great too, with slightly different mounting system.
