I believe we can all agree that KTM 690 Enduro is an extremely capable and versatile bike. It handles varying riding situations with ease. From playing "around the block" to trips around the world, and anything in between, the KTM 690 Enduro proves to be a reliable companion. With correct luggage choice and a few smart modifications, it can effortlessly transition from a lightweight trail machine to a fully loaded adventure bike. This article is biased toward the "trail machine" side of spectrum.
Going out even for a short afternoon ride usually involves packing some luggage. Basic tools, spare tubes, snacks and first aid kit can fit in almost any backpack. Personally, I'm not a fan of carrying a backpack while riding (water bladder is excepted from this statement. That one is a must to have!), especially in rougher terrain. Small bags, like Mosko moto Reckless 10, work great in transferring stuff from the backpack onto the bike.
One advantage of using side bags instead of tail bags is that they help lower center of mass of the luggage, which in turn improves the bike's handling.
The bike is equipped with Perun moto KTM 690 Luggage rack and Heel guards which make installation of the Reckless 10 a breeze. Reckless 10 harness has two upper straps. These are threaded trough slots on the rack for secure mounting.
I prefer mounting the luggage as far forward as possible. For those who want to move the bags further to the back, it's possible to use other pair of slots on the rack. This gives a wide range of adjustment.
All of the edges on the rack are chamfered and smooth. Straps appreciate this.
Even though our 690 rack was designed before Mosko came up with the Gnoblin, it's still possible to use the Gnoblin. All you need is one additional M6 flat wide washer which goes to the underside of the rack. Basically converts the slot into a hole.
Gnoblin speeds up mounting of the Reckless 10. Considering the fact that harness covers the fuel cap, this is a welcome feature.
Lower straps attach to our Heel guards. Perfectly angled slots, completely rounded edges for prolonged strap life. Please note that the photo below shows previous version (V2) of Heel guards.
Current V3 version features fully rounded edges of slots, plus a notch at the top for quicker strap installation. Shown fitted to Husqvarna 701 in the photo below.
The bags rest entirely on the side panels of the bike. This makes them very stable with little to no bounce even in roughest of trails. LHS bag is away from the silencer (in this case, a Wings silencer). We haven't tested the fit with stock exhaust as it's the first thing to be removed from the bike. Even though chances of bags getting burned are slim, I would still recommend to install a heat shield.
Depending on where the Reckless 10 is positioned, almost entire surface of our Luggage rack remains free. It's possible to add a smaller tail bag.
This video shows the Reckless 10 on 690 with our Luggage rack installed.
Mosko moto Reckless 10 also fits well with our Extension plate installed on the bike. Extension plate provides more real estate, making installation of larger (30-40l) tail bags possible.
As far as fit of Reckless 10 is concerned nothing really changes. Straps or the Gnoblin can be used for installation, and they still attach to the Luggage rack.
Front corners of the Extension plate push Reckless 10 harness a bit further out. It's expectable that this will over time wear trough the powder coating of the extension plate, but shouldn't be a concern regarding longevity of the bags.
Here are a couple more photos of this setup from different angles.
