When we got our hands on Aprilia Tuareg, dedicated Kriega OS-Base for it still wasn't available. With Tenere 700 OS-Base lying around the shop, I decided to give it a try. Somewhat to my surprise, the fit was pretty much spot-on and I never felt the need to switch to Tuareg specific OS-Base. Paired with two OS-18 bags there is plenty of space for all but camping trips. With that said, if you're building your kit from scratch then it's probably wise to get bike specific base. This ensures best possible fit.
Tenere OS-Base comes with their alloy mounts which use M8 bolts. Note that these can't be used on a Tuareg on their own, as the bike uses M6 bolts in required positions. Obviously, Tuareg specific OS-base comes with M6 bolt alloy mount and can be mounted directly to the bike (no rack is required). IMHO both Kriega mounts are too long, increasing the risk of them getting damaged, when mounted with our racks. To overcome this possible issue, we have designed our Kriega mount add-on to be shorter. Bolt head is recessed deep into the mount allowing use of shorter bolts. This reduces leverage and lowers the chance of bending/breaking. Our Kriega mount add-on integrates seamlessly with our Aprilia Tuareg Top luggage rack.
Lower straps can be attached to passenger footrest brackets. However, anybody who has ridden Tuareg off-road has probably ended with bruised calves at some point. Irritating issue, easily avoided by installing Perun moto Tie-down brackets. With their low profile and perfectly positioned slots, it's easy to forget they're on the bike. As with the rest of our luggage related products, all edges are chamfered and smooth to ensure strap longevity.
To complete the installation, simply tighten the upper straps and you're ready to go.
Mounted like this, RHS bag will sit on the stock silencer. Use of the heat shield is necessary. This also means that this side will be little higher than the bag on the left. Not noticeable while riding, but might trigger some OCD reactions when looked at from behind :)
LHS bag rests partially on the side panel. I never felt it bounce around, and trust me when I say that this setup has been through some rough stuff on more than one occasion. The bag is not in danger of being hit by a swingarm or getting tangled into rear wheel.
As far as rack-less luggage systems go, this is a very narrow setup. OS-18 bags are mostly tucked behind rider's legs.
With top of the bags sitting slightly above stock seat, I find it convenient to use them as a seat extension on longer highway sections. This enables me to move around and greatly helps with comfort.
A couple more photos from different angles.
As can be seen in the photos above, this setup leaves entire surface of our Luggage rack free. This makes installation of any tail bag extremely simple. And that brings us to my favorite luggage setup for the Tuareg: 2xOS-18 side bags on a OS-Base with US-40 Rackpack as a tail bag.
Only thing missing in photos above is Kriega OS-Bottle which I use as an external pocket on top of the US-40. This is my go-to luggage setup when taking the Tuareg on longer trips (or any camping ride).
