Giant Loop Siskiyou is one of the biggest capacity rack-less luggage systems on the market. Perfect fitting of such a large panniers to Ducati DesertX, notable for its slim rear-end design, can be tricky.
Having no side panels or stock luggage rack at the rear leaves the tubular subframe exposed and grab handle is easily accessible.
Since the grab handle is the only place at the rear where straps can be tied to, adjustment of the bag’s position is limited. They will sit too far forward on pillion seat, possibly interfering with rider’s movements on the bike. Siskiyou bags are big and relatively wide. Sitting on the narrow rear end of a DesertX leaves sides of the bags unsupported, especially on the LHS of the bike.
Two Perun moto products tailor made for Ducati DesertX solve both of these issues.
First, the rear top rack - Perun moto Ducati DesertX Top luggage rack.
It provides several slots which can be used to secure the Siskiyou panniers. As on all our racks, all edges are chamfered, and the rack is powder coated which rounds the edges even more. This means the straps are safe from fraying.
Next - Perun moto Ducati DesertX Side carriers. These are used to install Giant Loop Possibles pouches, by strapping them onto the Side carriers.
Set up like this, with Top luggage rack and Side carriers with Possibles bags installed, Ducati DesertX becomes perfect platform for Siskiyou panniers.
The rack provides perfect strapping point for upper straps.
Notice how the slots are angled, so the straps are placed at a perfect angle. Also, there is enough room to move the bags fore-aft and to find most suitable position.
Installed on the bike, top side of the Siskiyou panniers lies flush with stock seat. This means there's a lot of room to install additional luggage to the rear rack or onto the passenger seat.
Possibles pouches, strapped to the Side carriers, provide support to the Siskiyou panniers. At the same time, they provide very useful 3.5 + 3.5 liters of additional waterproof space, for tools, air compressors, sneakers or similar.
Possibles bag prevents the LHS Siskiyou pannier from interfering with the swingarm, even under full compression.
Using the heat shield on the silencer is still necessary. Due to the large size of Siskiyou bags, they are contacting the silencer.
Little tip for tying the lower straps: pass them between the tubes of passenger foot-peg brackets, as shown below. Mounted this way, the straps sit at perfect angle.
The entire setup is only a few centimeters wider than the handlebars.
Rider’s space is not compromised, as the bags sit entirely on the passenger seat. They are not interfering with the movement of the rider.
This setup is thoroughly tested, and it works well. Great option when everything needs to fit just into the panniers, without central bag.
