Ducati DesertX is meant for traveling, and traveling requires luggage. For those longer trips, many riders will appreciate spacious storage offered by Giant Loop Great Basin saddlebags.
Great Basin has been on the market for a while now. It's a well proven design with no unnecessary bells and whistles. A couple of Perun moto products ensure that fitment on DesertX is as good as possible.
Bike is equipped with our Top Luggage rack, Side carriers and Tie-down brackets.
Installation of Great Basin bags is easy. Three top straps are looped through slots on Top rack. Slots are positioned in a way which enables plenty of fore-aft adjustment of the bags.
Lower straps attach to Tie-down brackets. Passenger foot rest brackets will also work, but for weight conscious riders Tie-down brackets are the way to go.
Excess length of the webbing can be cut down to size. Since we're using the same bags on many different bikes, cutting is not an option. Instead, I roll the strap around itself and secure the loose end.
To further enhance fitment, and to prevent any bouncing of the bags, lower part of the "legs" is fixed to Perun Moto Side carriers. This is done with one pronghorn strap on each side.
As can be seen from the above photos, bags aren't touching the silencer. Keep in mind that they are moved as far forward as it makes sense so this could change if bags are moved further backwards. Use of a heat shield is always a good precaution measure.
Mounted like this, there is virtually no bouncing and it's easy to forget you have any luggage behind you.
Base of the Great Basin is designed for bikes with different seat to footrest geometry than the DesertX. This will leave the gap between seat and the base. I see, and use, that gap as a perfect stash for rain suite or spare tube (yes, I will take the spare tube and tire levers on a longer trips, even tough bike has tubeless tires and rims).
Take a look at this short video for a detailed showcase of Giant Loop Great basin saddlebags on a Ducati DesertX:
Next couple of photos show the bike with Great Basin bags from different angles.
