Fits bikes with 32 mm oversized handlebars (newer BMW bikes) and with split handlebar clamps.
Content of the hardware kit
1 x lower handlebar clamp,
1 x upper handlebar clamp,
1 x AMPS mounting plate,
1 x M6x20 allen head bolt
1 x M6x25 allen head bolt,
2 x M5x10 allen head bolt,
4 x M4x16 Button Head bolt,
4 x M4 small washers,
4 x protective 3M sticker (two are spare)
1. Apply 3M adhesive protective film on the inside radius of Upper and Lower clamps.
Hole on the sticker should align with the hole on the clamp (on the side where the hole is further away from the clamp's edge - see photo below).
Then gently roll the sticker onto the inside radius. No need to be ultra precise.
2. Clean the handlebar, between left and right handlebar clamp.
3. OPTIONAL
If your bike doesn't have handlebar risers installed, it is necessary to remove the handlebars prior to the installation of lower part of the Direct handlebar clamp.
This step is not needed if bike comes with the handlebar risers.
To do so, remove the four bolts marked in photo below.
4. Position and assemble lower and upper piece of the clamp, as shown in the photos below.
M6x20 bolt is closer to the rider.
M6x25 bolt is closer to the dashboard.
Tighten M6x25 to 5-6 Nm (tighten this bolt first. There should be no space between surfaces of the upper and lower clamp.)
Adjust the tilt and tighten M6x20 bolt to 5-6 Nm.
Pro tip: do not overtighten M6x20 bolt. This enables rotation of the Direct handlebar clamp to be adjusted later on, while prohibiting unintentional movement.
5. OPTIONAL
If you had to remove the handlebars from the bike, now is the time to reinstall them. Pay attention to position the handlebars in the center, and adjust rotation to suite your preferences.
Tighten the four bolts to OEM specs.
6. Place the mounting plate and fix it with M5x10 bolts. No need to tighten too much, hand tight is enough.
7. Mounting plate can be installed either facing forward or backward. In both positions it can be moved fore-aft. This gives around 6cm of adjustment.
8. Position GPS cradle and fix it using provided M4 button head bolts and washers. Don't forget the washers! Hand tight is enough.
9. Make necessary adjustment of the tilt and forward - aft position, if needed.
