Our new Direct handlebar clamp is designed to accept all GPS or phone mounts with standard AMPS bolt pattern. It is a perfect place to mount back-up GPS unit or a phone. Garmin use AMPS bolt pattern for all their moto GPS cradles. QuadLock use the same pattern for their Flat rectangle base.
Perun moto Direct handlebar clamp works for virtually any bike with "oversized" handlebars and split handlebar clamps.
"Oversized" handlebars, or FatBars, have middle section of 28.6 mm or 1-1/8". These handlebars are more or less industry standard for Adv and Enduro bikes.
"Split handlebar clamps" means that left and right handlebar clamps are not connected. Some bikes have upper or lower handlebar clamp made of one piece and our Direct handlebar clamp won't work on those bikes.
Here is how split handlebar clamps look like. This is stock Husqvarna Norden 901. Same handlebar clamp style is used on all model years of KTM 790, 890, 1090, 1190 and 1290 Adventure / Super Adventure bikes. Also, many KTM EXC bikes comes with stock split handlebar clamps.
On mid and big Adv bikes, preferred place to mount GPS unit (or phone if it is used for navigation) is above the dash. This makes sense, as navigation unit is close to the line of sight. It has some downsides (can obstruct the view; sometimes not easy to reach, to make some changes etc.) but most riders prefer this position.
Our Direct handlebar clamp offers another spot, for back-up navigation or for a phone. It is especially useful for a phone (with anti-vibration mount!) as the phone is within the riders reach.
Clamp can rotate around the handlebar. And upper plate, with horizontal and vertical AMPS bolt pattern, can be adjusted approx. 60 mm in forward - aft direction.
With this kind of adjustment, finding a perfect place for GPS unit, or a phone, should be very easy.
Here is How Garmin Zumo 396 looks like, mounted on the Perun moto clamp.
Horizontal position is an option too.
And here is larger Garmin Zumo XT.
Both horizontal and vertical mounting is possible.
Clamp is made out of aluminum-magnesium alloy. It weights almost nothing.
Upper mounting plate, with AMPS bolt pattern, has threaded holes (M4), so mounting a phone or GPS cradle is very easy. All threads are formed (not cut) which adds durability.
We supply M4x16 bolts and washers with each clamp.
All parts are powder coated, which rounds the edges even more and provides smooth contact with the handlebars. This should prevent scuffing the handlebars.
