When I first saw BMW F900GS I was really impressed. This bike is a huge upgrade over previous generation and it brings BMW back with a bang in the very competitive mid size Adv segment.

Working on the bike, creating a Top luggage rack and Tie-down brackets for it, I was even more impressed with the level of details and clever solutions German engineers implemented. When I finished working on these products, I was about to quickly design simple footstand extension and finish with F900GS parts for this moment. But, something was off with the OEM footstand. Taking some measurements, I realized that OEM footstand sits with just one edge touching the ground, like on the photo below (photo by Advrider inmate Magile).

This seemed very weird and I thought something is wrong with our bike. So I posted a question in Advrider forum. It became clear that this is how it is, on all F900GS bikes, and it is not a flaw on our bike. Why this is the case, remains unclear. Loading the bike (sitting on it), doesn't make the footstand flush with the ground. So it wasn't made to compensate for that. Anyway, whatever the reason, I am 100% sure it is not an issue and it is good as is. But, considering the high design level in the other departments of this bike, I aimed to correct this with our footstand extender.

This is what I came out with.

Bottom side has two angled surfaces. One is designed to sit flush with the ground and it has exact (well, almost exact) surface area as the OEM foostand. Other surface is slightly angled compared to first one and it will make contact with the ground when the ground is soft - when you actually need larger footstand surface.

Here is how it looks on the bike, parked on the completely flat surface.

This lower piece is made out of aluminum alloy and it is 3D milled out of solid chunk of aluminum. Threads are formed, not cut, for more durability. And the pocket for OEM footstand is precisely milled. All anodized in black.

Rest is pretty standard. Upper is made out of 2 mm stainless steel and it adapts to the shape of OEM foostand, when installed. This keeps the enlarger very tightly. Upper is powder coated in same "color" as our F900GS Top luggage rack.

Bolts are torx stainless steel bolts.

When installed, everything looks like this.

Although manufacturing this foostand enlarger (lower part) takes a bit more machine time than manufacturing simple, flat footstand enlarger, I think it is worth it. As mentioned before, I am sure it is not something that is necessary - it is just a compliment to this fantastic bike.
